Role Model Training

Last week, the fourth graders spent the day at the Cormier Youth Center participating in Superhero Training.  They experienced a series of challenges that tested their teamwork, communication and listening skills.  They learned the importance of being a role model, as they are the oldest students that our younger students will look up to next year.  They enjoyed games that tested their ability to problem solve as a team and work towards a common goal.  They ended the day with a NEAL performance, integrating literature and the arts, which illustrated how some famous figures had reached greatness and become role models themselves.

The children were very thankful to Salvatore's for donating the pizzas for the event.  When some children heard it was Sal's, many switched suddenly from saying they brought their lunch to wanting pizza.  They got to eat with the fifth grade teachers, which was pretty great! These teachers also organized a warm welcome back as the busses rolled in and the fifth graders clapped and held a banner that read, "Welcome Back Superheroes."

The Group Sit
I am thankful to our teachers, parent helpers, Mrs. Modlish and Mrs. D-our social workers, Mrs. Swanson and Mrs. McNeeley-our ESL teachers,  Mr. Harkins, Mr. Chinosi- The Director of Strategic Innovation and AYS for helping make this day a success.  We also want to thank Optimum Printing in Lawrence, who turned our T-shirts around in less than one week.  Lastly, thank you families for trusting us to create this new experience for our students.

Fifth Grade Field Day

We can't thank the room parents enough for the effort they put into organizing this morning of games, laughter and a return to the games we enjoyed like sack races and jump roping. Amazing morning!

Superhero Training Teaser

Here is a teaser photo...more will be coming!  We had the most amazing day at the Cormier Youth Center today with our fourth graders.  We were conducting a superhero training course, in which students were learning about the character traits of a superhero or role model as they prepare to be the oldest children in the school that everyone else looks up to next year.  They were so engaged and excited about being at the Youth Center and we can't wait to show more pictures!

Flag Day Flash Mob

Today we had a beautiful celebration of our nation's flag outside on the plaza.  We will hopefully post pictures soon but I had to share this video of the third graders showing off their AMAZING recorder skills during our annual recorder flash mob.  Listen and guess the song?  It won't take much, as it sounds just like it!
