Massachusetts Children's Book Award

On March 13th, thirty-eight 4th and 5th graders gathered in the Bancroft Library to celebrate the conclusion of this year's Massachusetts Children's Book Awards.  The students were challenged to read at least 5 of the 25 nominated books.  This program is run by Salem State University for 4-6 graders across Massachusetts.  Thanks to the Bancroft PTO, we are able to provide copies of all 25 books in the Library for checking out.  The students read and recorded a response to each book they chose.  At the Celebration, the students gave Book Talks for the books they wanted to win, drew pictures of new book covers for their choice, and participated in a scavenger hunt.  Finally, they each voted for the book that they wanted to win the 2018-19 MCBA and made their own ice cream sundaes.

Congratulations to the six 4th graders who read all 25 of the nominated books!  Their picture is above!

The 2019-20 list will be announced in early May!

Pop Up Pods

This week Mrs. Mallon’s class had a chance to use their new Pop-Up Pods. The “VoicePods” give students a fun and engaging space to share what they are learning in the classroom. Students create short reflection videos using Flipgrid, a video discussion platform for schools. Students are encouraged to share their voice, and tell their audience what they are doing in the classroom.
