NEAL Makes Literature Come to Life!

Students in Mrs. Snow and Mrs. Caruso's library/media classes worked on costumes and props for their upcoming performances in which they bring literature to life.  This assignment was inspired by the NEAL project in which teachers are taught how to help students create a "performance of understanding."

More pictures to come on performance day!

Happy 100th Day!

Our first graders had a day of fun activities centered around our 100th day of school.  Many also dressed as if they were 100, even the teachers!

Fifth Graders Engaged in the Learning Process

With a simple walk through, it is possible to observe so much engagement and deep learning!  This week, during a ten minute period in fifth grade, there were children engaged in hands-on science experiments, students drawing maps that represented the world of "Maniac McGee" and teams working collaboratively to complete ad campaigns for states they had learned about in social studies.  The other classes, not pictured, were writing persuasive essays on their Chromebooks on a topic of their choice.   Amazing!!

Building and Coding with Lego WeDo

Mrs. Mallon's class joined Mr. Harkins in the MakerStudio to build with Legos.  With grant money from Andonna, Bancroft purchased the Lego WeDo kits.  Using the Lego kits and their Chromebooks, the students built Milo Science Rovers and then coded them to move forward

Go Pats!

We had our Superbowl assembly last week and the two big words were DETERMINATION and PERSEVERANCE.  I guess it worked.  Go Pats!
